For three years, my nightstand looked like the back of a computer. An interior designer friend, one October evening, changed everything.

The dinner that changed everything
Last October, a friend came over for dinner. Her name is Claire, she's an interior designer in Paris, and she has that annoying gift of making absolutely any room she walks into look beautiful. I called Jean-Marc Villeneuve, industrial designer based in Nantes, to understand why such a simple object produced this effect. “Most tech accessories are designed like gadgets,” he explained to me. “They highlight the logo, add LEDs, make glossy plastic so it 'looks modern.' Zen does the exact opposite: it hides in plain sight, like a stone on a shelf.”
