The object is called Echo. It is made by a French brand, Les Petits Chargeurs, and designed by Aurélie Boiselle. The principle is disarmingly simple : a single USB-C cable goes to the outlet. Three MagSafe charging zones integrated into a compact 179 mm long housing — smaller than a paperback book. You place your iPhone on the front, it snaps magnetically into place. AirPods nest in the central recess. Apple Watch attaches to the side dock.

I ordered one that very evening, in black. It arrived four days later in a neat matte box, packaged like fine jewelry. Ever since, my nightstand looks nothing like that photo.

What changes after a week without cables

The first night, I checked three times that it was working. No light. No beep. Just the snap soft click of the iPhone attaching magnetically, and silence. In the morning: three devices at 100%. The next morning too.

After a week, I tucked the five cables and two power strips into a drawer. I haven't opened it since. After two weeks, my husband asked me « what is this thing? » — then he ordered one for his side of the bed.

The Echo is the exact opposite: a soft shape, a matte finish, not a single indicator light. We wanted an object that sits on a nightstand without being noticed. Not a gadget — a piece of furniture.”

On the brand's website, the average rating for the Echo borders on 4.9 out of 5. But what stands out, beyond the score, is how often the same word comes up: nightstand. People don't talk about watts or Qi compatibility. They talk about the space they've reclaimed.
